Description: This monthly meeting of the Wyncote Audubon Society is open to the public in partnership with Upper Dublin Library.  Join us for a new topic and new speaker every month.

Kestrels are just one of many grassland birds that are declining at a steep rate in southeastern PA. To help in their conservation, a large-scale kestrel nestbox program was established by the PGC to help slow down their decline throughout the region. This talk will provide information about these colorfully charismatic falcons and highlight some of the accomplishments made and information learned from this kestrel nestbox program. The talk will also help highlight the importance of teamwork in conservation projects such as this and discuss how the success of this kestrel program has only been possible with the help of an exceptional team of partners and volunteers which included many members of the birding community.

The Wyncote Audubon Society is a Chapter of the National Audubon Society serving the nearly 2000 Audubon members who reside in major portions of Montgomery County and Philadelphia including Chestnut Hill, East Falls, Manayunk, Mt. Airy, Roxborough, North Philadelphia and Northeast Philadelphia.

Speaker: For the past 20 years, Dan Mummert has been the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s wildlife diversity biologist for twelve counties of southeastern Pennsylvania where his work is focused on the conservation of the state’s rare and declining species of birds and mammals. Dan knows he has the best job in the world and is doing exactly what he dreamed of doing for a career. Dan grew up in Harrisburg and now lives in Lititz with his wife, three kids, and a miniature zoo of small, cold-blooded pets.
