First off, Happy Star Wars Day. May the Fourth Be With You
Now that I got that out of the way, I want to share some super exciting things with you. If you haven’t visited Mondauk Common Park (you know that amazing park with the trail around it) recently, you need to!! We installed a Picture Book Walk for families to enjoy together. The book is Kite Day by Will Hillenbrand, the One Book Every Young Child selection for 2016. The idea is that, as a family, you walk the trail and read the book, discussing it as you go. If you see Bear excited, he is one of the characters, ask your child when they get excited. If you have a beginning reader, have them help you read the story. All while you are doing this, you are exercising, as a family!
The book starts at the trail’s start/finish line, the road side of the playground and pavilion area, and goes around and ends at the playground. I had one young man tell me, he couldn’t swing unless he walked and read the story first. Try it out and tell us what you think. If enough people like it, we’ll do it again.
Tomorrow, Thursday the 5th, is our annual Touch-A-Truck event at 1:30. Trucks outside, crafts inside.
On Saturday, May 7th from 1-3, we are celebrating Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll with an Alice in Wonderland Merry Un-Birthday Tea Party at Temple University Ambler. The Ambler Arboretum has beautiful formal gardens and even a tranquil woodland garden that we will be using for the event. There will be games, croquet of course, a scavenger hunt, crafts, snacks, and special guest readers. The head of the Arboretum will be there to answer questions about the gardens, really excited about that. You might even spot Alice wandering around.
One of the things I am most excited about are the guest readers. They will be reading selections from the book or a picture book version of the story. We have some very special people coming to join us:
Dr. Wheeler, your very own Superintendent of Upper Dublin School District
State Representative Thomas Murt, from the 152nd Legislative District
To get there, park in the lot across from campus. Once across the street, follow the signs to our party.
I hope you can join us, the staff and volunteers have worked very hard to make this, and all our programs a success.
