WiFi Hotspot FAQs
A portable WiFi hotspot is a pocket sized mobile router, which you can take with you setup an internet connection. Most portable hotspots devices use the 3G and 4G signals from network providers to enable the connection.
With the signal that the hotspot creates, you can connect your smartphone, tablet and laptop to the internet. This will enable you to set up your own private internet connection, almost anywhere in the world. Perfect for mobile workers and travelers.
UDPL’s hotspots are on the T-Mobile network.
Laptops, tablets, smartphones and any other device that you would connect to a wifi network can be connected to a wifi hotspot.
Hotspots are a part of our Library of Things collection.
Please visit the Library of Things page on our website for more information about reserving a hotspot.
Hotspots must be picked up and returned to a staff person at the Express Library on the first floor of the Library.
Hotspots can be borrowed for up to eight days depending on how long you would like to have it. You no longer need to borrow a hotspot for an entire week.
Hotspots are available to be picked up beginning at 9:30a on the first day of the reservation and by the time the library closes (Monday-Thursday 8:45p, Friday-Sunday 5p).
Hotspots can only be borrowed once per month.
Upper Dublin library card holders can reserve a hotspot up to 60 days in advance.
The hotspot will come with the following items:
- The hotspot device
- A USB power cord
- A power brick that can be plugged into a wall outlet
- Laminated instruction sheets
As of November 10, 2021, items returned late to the UDPL will no longer accrue daily overdue fines, and the UDPL will no longer collect them. This includes our Library of Things collection. However, If you do not pick up your item, or cancel your reservation more than a day before, the system will mark your account with a “no show.” Accounts with 2 no-shows will not be able to make reservations for 90 days.
There would be a $100 replacement fee if the hotspot is damaged, lost, or stolen.
