Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! How appropriate for this weekend’s Winterfest! When I arrived at work this morning, the parking lot of the Upper Dublin Township building was being transformed into a magical winter wonderland. Complete with giant, colorful bulbs like the ones from my childhood Christmas tree along with what promises to be a variety of sparkling displays, including a Cinderella coach and a delightful carousel, I can already imagine a sight to behold. They’re out there right now preparing ice sculptures, including a throne made entirely of ice.
The festivities begin in just a few hours, 7-9 pm tonight (Feb 1) and 4-8 pm tomorrow night (Feb 2). With something for everyone, there will be ice skating, an ice slide, carriage rides, music, food trucks, a beer/wine ice bar and cocoa and s’mores.

With Township Assistant Manager Jonathan Bleemer (left) and Kevin McCann (Fire dept). The Gumby suit seems a bit much for the dunk tank. Since I go on near the end, I’ll see how the other “finest” fare before I decide if I need it.
For my part, I’ll be joining “UD’s Finest” in the dunk tank tomorrow. I’m not sure if one could call this an honor, but at least the weather reports suggest warmer temperatures than this evening. I’ve spent a part of this morning trying on one of the Fire Company’s Gumby suits, which Wikipedia defines as “a special type of waterproof dry suit that protects the wearer from hypothermia from immersion in cold water, after abandoning a sinking or capsized vessel, especially in the open ocean.” Just point me to the nearest hot cocoa stand, please. It’s all in a day’s work for a librarian.
Come out and throw a few pitches from 5-7 pm. 1 throw for $2 and 3 for $5. All proceeds support good causes, the Upper Dublin Township Recreation Scholarship and Upper Dublin Education Foundation.
See you there!
