The Arts @ UDPL

One of the wonderful things about living in the Philadelphia region is that we have such convenient access to all the arts and cultural opportunities that a major metropolitan area offers.  Hop on SEPTA or shoot down 76 (I know, I’m painting too rosy of a picture by assuming that these are speedy transportation options) and you can easily partake of the vibrant Philly arts & culture scene.

Sometimes, though, on a Friday evening, you might want an even more convenient way to enjoy the arts. UDPLs’ Friday evening “Arts @ the Library series,” kicked off Fall 2016 with a performance by members of the acclaimed Pennsylvania Philharmonic.  UDHS’ own VOX acapella group took the township building by storm with their awesome performance, complete with a rap interlude of “Ice, Ice Baby” in the midst of a spirited version of the Queen/David Bowie classic “Under Pressure.”  While it’s hard to follow such accomplished local talent, this past Friday, UDPL welcomed Bright Star Touring Theater, a national/internationally touring theater group for all ages. Bright Star entertained UD audiences with a hilarious and slightly spooky adaptation of the ill-fated tale of Ichabod Crane, with “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”  It was a treat to see the wonderful story by Washington Irving made accessible to all ages.

Our Friday arts program will be Friday, November 18th at 7 p.m.  The fabulous actress Linda Kenyon will join us for her one woman show, “Julia, Bon Appetit.”  The show will detail the professional and personal life of the woman who brought French cookery into millions of homes. If November seems too far away, never fear; we’ve got many other exciting programs happening at UDPL in the next few weeks, including a visit from best-selling author Alice Hoffman.  Check out the exciting slate of all programming at udpl.org!
