Where do I return the items I have checked out?

The Book Drop is now open from dawn to dusk at the new library at 520 Virginia Drive, Ft. Washington.

The Book Drop is located on the back wall which allows the items to be returned directly into the building!

Please Note:
  • All returned items will remain on accounts for at least 72 hours as they are being quarantined before they are processed by staff. No fines will be incurred.
  • You may return books you’ve borrowed from other libraries. We’ll make sure they return home.
What if I have fines or fees for overdue/lost/damaged books?

We know this has been and continues to be a stressful and frustrating time for everyone. We realize you have a lot on your plate, and the last thing we want you to be worrying about are overdue fines. We also realize that, due to the measures we are taking to make using the library safe, such as quarantining returned books and social distancing, our materials are not moving as quickly or efficiently as they normally do. Therefore, we are suspending overdue fines for the foreseeable future. We still encourage you to return your items on time so others can borrow them, and you will continue to receive almost due and overdue notices to help you stay on track.

If you need to pay for a lost or damaged item, please consider contactless payment via your online account. Alternatively, you can pay by check or cash. Exact change, please; we are not making change at this time.

How do I get a library card?

Your library card is more important than ever. You may register for and receive a library card on your next visit or by applying here. For online applications, you will be contacted by a staff member when your library card is ready for pickup. Alternatively, you can request that your card be mailed to you.

2. Wear a Mask. In accordance with the latest state and CDC guidelines to help mitigate the spread of the virus, the Library Board adopted a COVID-19 policy in September that requires masks to be worn properly over the mouth and nose at all times while in the Library building. If you cannot wear a mask, please utilize the Service Window or contact the library staff to assist you.

3. Maintain 6-foot Distancing. Please maintain at least 6-foot distancing between you and other visitors and library staff.

4. Bring Your Library Card. All checkouts will occur at our self-checkout stations, which require you to scan the barcode on the back of your library card. Consider scanning your library card to your phone using the Cardstar or Stocard Apps so you always have it with you. If you do not have a library card, apply for one here.

5. Please be Patient. We know that all of these rules and changes can be confusing and frustrating at times. Please know that we are doing our best to provide library services in a unique time while ensuring that we keep everyone safe. We can only do this if we all work together.

Service Window & Requests for Pickup

What can I do at the Service Window?

The UDPL’s Service Window is, essentially, our version of curbside pickup for books and other items you request. Staff will also assist you with simple account questions, library card registrations, membership renewals, and other brief enquires.

At this time, we encourage you to call or email the Library if you: would like us to look up a title, require tech support, need assistance with our online resources or have other questions that will take more than a few moments to answer. Find our latest contact information and hours at https://upperdublinlibrary.org/contact-us/.

How does the Service Window work?

When you are notified that your book is ready for pickup at the Upper Dublin Library, simply visit the Library Service Window during operating hours. (Click here to see our hours.)

The Window is located next to the book return slot. Enter the Southeast driveway and follow signs for Book Drop/Pickup (first left, inner lane).

Map of the UDPL Book Drop

No appointments are necessary. The window is the only way to retrieve your requests at this time.

Please slowly approach the window wearing a mask (library staff will be wearing masks as well). Have your library card available to be scanned. Titles will be held for 10 days before they are returned to the shelves.

How do I place a request to be picked up at the Service Window?
Can I pick up my request inside the Library Building?

The Service Window remains the pickup location for ALL requested books and materials.

COVID-19 Protocols

What efforts is the Library taking to mitigate the spread of COVID-19?

Library staff will be monitoring use of the Library to ensure visitors are following adopted protocols that are in line with CDC and PA guidelines. As per the Library Board’s COVID-19 policy, visitors will be required to properly wear masks and to socially distance. Building capacity will be kept at a reduced rate.

The Library also is taking several measures to reduce the potential transfer of the virus. Acrylic shields surround all service desks. Visitors are strongly encouraged to bring their library card (or a digital scan of their library card barcode), and they will be directed to utilize the Library’s self-checkout stations. Fines will be waived at this time; borrowers are encouraged to pay any fees for lost/damaged books online.

Cleaning and disinfecting are a priority for the Library. An experienced, professional team will clean the Library every day the building is open. Additionally, library staff will periodically sanitize high touch surfaces throughout operating hours. Hand sanitizer dispensers are available throughout the building. Books and other items returned are being quarantined for 4 days (96 hours) before being checked in and returned to the shelves.

What is the Library’s policy on mask wearing?

In accordance with the latest state and CDC guidelines to help mitigate the spread of the virus, the Library Board adopted a COVID-19 policy in September that requires masks to be worn properly over the mouth and nose at all times by anyone over the age of 2 while in the Library building. If you cannot wear a mask, please utilize the Service Window or contact the library staff to assist you.

What will the Library do if a COVID-19 case is reported?

The Library, in accordance with Upper Dublin Township protocols, will react swiftly if a COVID-19 case is reported. If a staff member is infected, he/she will not be permitted to return to work until 10 days after a positive result AND he/she are fever free for more than 72 hours. Efforts will be made to disinfect any areas the staff member last worked in and to inform anyone the staff member may have come in contact with. Communications will be shared as needed.
