Dear Patrons and Friends,
We are excited to announce this week that the next phase of Upper Dublin Library services is now available. While the library building remains closed as we complete final preparations, you may now pick up your requested titles at the UDPL’s new drive-thru Service Window. Also, phone hours have resumed! Staff members are available for your calls at 215-628-8744 six days/week.
Window & Phone Hours Now Open* (beginning Mon, 9/14/2020)
Tuesday & Wednesday: 12-7p
Thursday, Friday, & Saturday: 12-5p
*Please note the building is still an active work zone. We apologize for any service disruptions due to power washing and painting this week.
What Can I Do at the Service Window?
The UDPL’s Service Window is, essentially, our version of curbside pickup for books and other requested items. Staff will also assist you with simple account questions, library card registrations, membership renewals, and other brief enquires.
At this time, we encourage you to phone 215-628-8744 or email firstname.lastname@example.org the Library if you would like us to look up a title, require tech support, need assistance with our online resources or have other questions that will take more than a few moments to answer.
How Does the Service Window Work?
When you are notified that your book is ready for pickup at the Upper Dublin Library, simply visit the Library Service Window during operating hours. The Window is located next to the book return slot. Enter the Southeast driveway and follow signs for Book Drop/Pickup (first left, inner lane).
For your convenience, the window is open six days/week, including evenings and Saturdays. No appointments necessary. The window is the only way to retrieve your requests at this time.
Please slowly approach the window wearing a mask. (Library staff will great you wearing masks.) Have your library card ready to be scanned. Titles will be held for 10 days before they are returned to the shelves.
How Do I Place a Request to be Picked Up at the UDPL?
For the last few months, you’ve been selecting another library for your holds pickups. Going forward, if you want to pick up your items at the UDPL’s Service Window, you simply have to select the Upper Dublin Library as the Pickup Location when you place a new request online. When logged into your account, you can also change any requests already made to be picked up at the UDPL, unless they are en route in which case they will still need to be picked up at the library you previously selected.
What if I Have Fines or Lost/Damaged Fees?
We know this has been and continues to be a stressful and frustrating time for everyone. We realize you have a lot on your plate, and the last thing we want you to be worrying about are overdue fines. We also realize that, due to the measures we are taking to make using the library safe, such as quarantining returned books and social distancing, our materials are not moving as quickly or efficiently as they normally do. Therefore, we are suspending overdue fines for the foreseeable future. We still encourage you to return your items on time so others can borrow them, and you will continue to receive almost due and overdue notices to help you stay on track.
If you need to pay for a lost or damaged item, please consider contactless payment via your online account. Alternatively, you can pay by check or cash. Exact change, please; we are not making change at this time.
Are You Library-Card Ready?
We’ve heard from so many of you over the last months about how excited you and your families are to visit the new UDPL. And we can’t wait to share it with you. While we know it’s taking longer than we’d hoped, please know that it’s because we want your first experience to be both exciting and safe.
Your library card will be more important than ever when we open the new building. September is Library Card Sign-up Month so while you’re waiting it’s a great time to make sure you have a library card. Need your first library card or a replacement? Simply complete the online form here, and we’ll call you when it’s ready for pickup at our Service Window (bring a driver’s license or proof of residency) or we can mail it to you.
I’ll close with a thanks–to all our neighboring libraries for opening their “doors” to Upper Dublin residents during our move, especially Horsham Library for being the UDPL’s default location for requests pickup. Thanks, too, to all of you, our great library patrons, for your continued patience with us. We look forward to seeing your (masked) faces soon!
