One of UDPL’s ongoing programs for adults is the Upper Dublin Knitters group, which meets every Thursday, from 7:15-8:45 p.m. at the library.
The group began in September 2015 when a UD resident approached the library about starting a group. Our wonderful group leader is an incredibly accomplished knitter, devoted to her craft. She is generous about sharing her knowledge and love of knitting with anyone who comes to the group.
As an on-again, off-again knitter, my skills are very basic and I’m very unsure of myself. However, whenever my schedule allows, I enjoy joining the Upper Dublin Knitters. There are always beginners like me, who gain support from the more advanced knitters. Inspiration abounds; every time I’ve made it to the group, someone is working on an intricate shawl or detailed sweater that literally looks like it could have been plucked off the shelf of a store (although, it’s usually much higher quality than what you find in a lot of stores, since it’s handmade!) Everyone is friendly, the environment is laid-back, and all you need to bring along is a positive attitude and some basic knitting supplies (whatever needles and yarn you might have!).
Summertime is a perfect time to explore new hobbies and if you start knitting now, you just might have some wearable or gift-able items by the time the cold weather returns to the area! All are welcome, and the group is drop-in, so why not stop by on a Thursday evening? Hope to see you there!
