Spring is in the air, and while some people use this time to improve their homes by cleaning, I really enjoy this time of year for improving my health. The longer days and the warmer weather just beckon you to emerge from the confines of your home or office to enjoy a little sunshine and a brisk walk or run.
I started a walking/running routine at Mondauk at the end of last summer in an effort to clear my mind and improve my cardiovascular health. Almost immediately, my feet wanted to run. All winter I was there even when the ice on the path was at its thickest and most treacherous; no one was around. It was a little eerie, but also peaceful. And I don’t mind the cold.
But now, with the improved weather, every walker and runner is vying for space on the loop. Clearly, many people in Upper Dublin are thinking about improving their bodies, their health and their lives.
The UDPL and Upper Dublin Parks & Recreation are committed to helping you do this with our Healthy Body & Mind 2015 series of events this spring. Whether you are training for the Upper Dublin Sprint Triathalon on May 17 or your style leans more towards Yoga, there’s a class or session for you.
But don’t forget that your mind needs exercising and inspiration, too! Pick up a copy of Erin Beresini’s book Inside the Mad, Muddy World of Obstacle Course Racing and a couple of FREE tickets today to see her speak at the library on May 7. A 3-time Ironman competitor, Erin has competed in everything from sprint triathlons to a 24-hour mountain bike race. For all of those athletes out there, she’ll be sharing tips, too!
Wishing you all a happy and healthy spring!
