When I was a kid, my grandparents subscribed to Time. Because they lived in Michigan and the Internet had not been invented yet (yes, I’m old), my grandparents would ship a box of Times to us every so often.
Ok, they were a couple months old, and the information was dated, but I loved those magazines. Flipping through them took me to other places and when we were done with them, I’d take them apart and use them for collage.
As an adult, I still love magazines, but one thing I don’t love is the Pile Of Magazines You’re Going to Get to Someday. You know what it looks like. It probably lives on your coffee table, next to your bed or maybe in your bathroom. You keep thinking you’ll read those worthy stories and meanwhile, the Pile is growing dust bunnies the size of small dobermans. Finally, you give up and recycle them all, only to start a new pile the next week.
The Library to the rescue! Did you know that we allow you to check out (and keep forever)
magazines? We subscribe to certain magazines through Zinio/RBDigital and you can check them out digitally. No more pile! The screenshot to the left shows my 300 magazine”pile”. It has never looked cleaner.
Using RBDigital is easy. Just to our eRead page and click the link to Zinio. Create an account on our RBdigital gateway using your library card. Then browse and check out at will. If you click on the covers, you can get to the back issues area, which in some cases, goes back 3 years!
If you want to read your magazines without using internet, you will need to download the RBDigital app. Once you login with your username and password, you can download all your checked out magazines. The best part? They don’t expire. There is a return button on the app, but you can keep your magazines forever. So, there’s no reason for you not to go wild and checkout everything you think you might get to. Honestly, digital clutter has never been easier.
The only problem with digital clutter? I’ve got to figure out something else to do collage with….
