Description: David Gaines, Montgomery County’s Poet Laureate from 2020, will be hosting Regenealogy: a poetry workshop that dismantles our perceived identities and empowers our lived identities by reimagining our origins. Participants will be asked to examine their histories, consider their present and visualize their futures.
This program will be held in-person, in the classroom. All Covid protocols will apply.
Instructor: Dave Gaines is a Black poet, filmmaker, and actor from Philadelphia. His work examines Blackness, masculinity, religion and mental health through an intersectional lens; and has been featured in the National Black Arts Festival, International Human Rights Art Festival, Wusgood Magazine, Write About Now, VICE Media, among others. In 2020, Dave’s poetry short film, “fine china.” received international acclaim and he became the Poet Laureate of Montgomery County, PA. View his poetry performance of “Birthday Wishes” on YouTube.
