Community Rooms (11/13 in the Teen Space)
An introductory look at how to read a film based on the basic pillars of film history, theory, and criticism. This class will take a look at the different elements of filmmaking and style to learn ways to identify technique while watching a movie. We will explore how filmmaking has evolved over the years and how those advancements have shaped film-going and film watching. Lessons will be supplemented with classic film theory essays, suggested viewings, film clips, and in-class discussions.
Presenter Michael Kamison is the Programming Director for Renew Theaters which operates the Ambler Theater, County Theater, Hiway Theater and the Princeton Garden Theatre. He is a graduate of Upper Dublin High School and then went on to get a Bachelor’s degree in Literature from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Fine Arts from Temple University. His favorite director is John Cassavetes and his favorite film is The Seventh Seal.
