Longwood Community Read: The Science & Biology of Plants
Thursday, 3/28, 7p
Main Meeting Room
From large coconuts to orchid seeds finer than dust, there are a plethora of adaptations that have evolved in the plant kingdom. In this program we will explore the biology of plant reproduction from flowering plants and pollination to the science behind seed scarification and germination. You’ll also learn about the various techniques used to clean and process seeds, and get inspired to start your own garden by planting a combination of vegetable and ornamental seeds in your outdoor space.
Presenter Joshua Darfler is a graduate of the Longwood Graduate Program and works in the greenhouses as the Biology Department Manager at the University of Pennsylvania.
