Description:
March is Women’s History Month. Say farewell to the Bell! After 9 months on display in the UDPL atrium, the replica Justice Bell, a symbol of the women’s suffrage movement, is moving on to a new location. During this Women’s History Month celebration, visit this important historical artifact and learn about Pennsylvania suffragists and their one-ton bronze bell.
Join us for a screening of the 19-minute award-winning documentary Finding Justice: The Untold Story of Women’s Fight for the Vote followed by a discussion from Amanda Owen, the filmmaker and Executive Director of the Justice Bell Foundation.
Get to know a few of our brave Pennsylvania suffragist heroes, including Elizabeth McShane Hilles (Union County) and Kathryn Heffelfinger (Northumberland County), who were imprisoned and tortured for picketing for voting rights, and Daisy Elizabeth Adams Lampkin (Allegheny County) and Etha Carroll Cowles Armstrong (York County) who faced racism and discrimination, yet gave their all for the cause. Q&A to follow. League of Women Voters Abington-Cheltenham-Jenkintown Area voter rescources too! For teens & adults.
