Description:  Thomas J. Wieckowski discusses his book “Hitherto Invincible”, about the 19th century development of Philadelphia and America through the eyes of three generations of the Barker family of Philadelphia and Chelten Hills. Family luminaries include Jacob, financier of the War of 1812; Abraham, president of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, co-founder of the Union League; and Wharton, US presidential candidate and international banker honored with knighthood by Czar Alexander in 1879.

Instructor:  Thomas J. Wieckowski is VP of the Old York Road Historical Society and Chair of the Cheltenham Township Historical Commission. He received his B.S. at Villanova University and Ph.D. from CUA, Washington, D.C. He is retired from Drexel University.
