Over six weeks, this class will explore the history of independent film through screenings, readings, and discussions. We will watch three films in the class that encompass the evolution of independent film from the early days of filmmaking through the Sundance-era filmmakers of the 1990s. Screenings will be paired with brief readings about the development of independent cinema and key players in the art form. This class will also discuss the roles of arthouse theaters and the business behind theatrical exhibition.

Presenter Mike Kamison is the Programming Director for Renew Theaters which operates the Ambler Theater, County Theater, Hiway Theater and the Princeton Garden Theatre. He is a graduate of Upper Dublin High School and then went on to get a Bachelor’s degree in Literature from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Fine Arts from Temple University.
