A few days ago it was announced that Lionsgate bought the rights to all the Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborne and it got me thinking about the idea of turning books into movies.
‘Magic Tree House’ Movies in Development at Lionsgate
There are countless movies based on books and more in the works, I even had to read a book that is being released as a movie this year for my Reading Challenge. How do you feel about your beloved characters taking a turn on the big screen? Do you go see the movie? Do you choose not to read the book, if you haven’t already? Do you set yourself up for disappointment?
Here’s my take on it: If I haven’t read the book, I wait until I see the movie (there are always more details in the book and I get angry if they are left out of the movie). If I didn’t like the book, I probably won’t see the movie. I steel myself for disappointment, my imagination does not always gel with movie directors/screenplay writers.
All that being said, there are some wonderful adaptations out there, I do love the Harry Potter films.
Speaking of Harry Potter, have you seen the new illustrated version of the first book, so cool. And.. if you are a teen or know a teen who loves the movies, join us on Friday for a marathon .
What are your thoughts?
Reading Challenge Update: I’m at 10 books read, and reading the 11th. How are you doing this year?
